Dr. Sayantan Nath is an accomplished researcher and academician with a PhD in Information Technology from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad. Currently serving as Associate Professor, Grade-I at JIS University, Kolkata, he brings extensive expertise in thermographic image processing, artificial intelligence, and cyber security. With a postdoctoral fellowship from NIT Tiruchirappalli and a diverse portfolio spanning academic research, international memberships, and specialized certifications, Dr. Nath has established himself as a multidisciplinary scholar contributing to technological innovation and humanity-driven scientific research.

Education

Dr. Nath completed his Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering from Academy of Technology under West Bengal University of Technology in 2008 with a CGPA of 6.92. He pursued his Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering from Haldia Institute of Technology, graduating in 2010 with a CGPA of 7.63. His doctoral journey culminated with a PhD from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, awarded in September 2017. His dissertation, supervised by Late Prof. G.N. Pandey and co-supervised by Dr. Sonali Agarwal, focused on “Fire Protection in Coal Mine through Image Processing,” submitted in December 2015 and defended in February 2017. He further enhanced his academic credentials through a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, spanning from November 2019 to May 2022. Additionally, he holds specialized diplomas in “United Nations and International Understanding” (2018) and Cyber Law from the Asian School of Cyber Laws (2019).

Dr. Nath’s research encompasses thermographic image processing techniques with applications in industrial safety, medical diagnostics, and autonomous systems. His doctoral work pioneered the detection of spontaneous combustion in coal seams through thermal imaging, focusing on processing thermographic images to generate intelligent alarm systems, segmenting thermal-affected regions, and locating thermal anomaly points. His research extends to multidimensional visualization systems for industrial machine control, intelligent object detection through thermal imaging, and enhancement of autonomous vehicle systems. He has developed expertise in image segmentation using hill climbing algorithms, mathematical modeling of temperature data, and real-time thermal imaging applications. His recent work includes gait analysis for detecting physical abnormalities using thermographic systems, COVID-19 patient monitoring through Tesseract-based data visualization, and elephant movement detection for accident prevention using thermal imaging. His interdisciplinary approach integrates artificial intelligence, machine learning, cyber security, and forensic sciences.

Experience

Dr. Nath’s professional journey includes diverse teaching and research positions across premier institutions. He began as Assistant Professor at SRMSCET, Bareilly (July 2016 – May 2017), followed by a position at Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Sodepur (January 2018 – November 2019). During his postdoctoral fellowship at NIT Tiruchirappalli (November 2019 – May 2022), he conducted advanced research while teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Post-fellowship, he served as Associate Professor, Grade-I at Sandip University, Nashik (July 2022 – July 2023), Brainware University, Kolkata (July 2023 – November 2023), and currently holds the same position at JIS University, Kolkata (December 2023 – Present). Throughout his career, he has taught diverse subjects including Software Project Management, Database Management Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Image Processing, Cryptography and Security, Cloud Computing, and Randomized Algorithms.
