Early Life and Education
Dr. K. Ramkumar, born and raised in Chennai, India, has devoted over two decades to the advancement of computer science and engineering education. He began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Madras in 1996, followed by a Master of Computer Applications from the same university in 2000. He pursued an M.Phil. in Computer Science from Alagappa University in 2005 and an M.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University in 2006. His strong interest in data protection and computational security led him to complete a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 2018, where his doctoral research focused on “Ensuring Data Security and Privacy in Cloud Computing.”
In 2023, he broadened his global academic footprint by completing a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Federal University of Ceará, Fortaleza, Brazil, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Biomedical Data Analytics.
Academic and Professional Experience
Dr. Ramkumar’s career spans more than 24 years of teaching, research, and industry engagement. He has served in diverse academic and administrative roles including Professor, Head of Department, Associate Dean, and Director in reputed engineering institutions across India. He is currently Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai. Previously, he served as Professor and Head of the Department of CSE at Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology and as Professor at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadapalani Campus. He has also held key leadership positions such as Associate Dean and Chairman of the Board of Studies at SRM University Delhi-NCR (Sonepat).
Before returning to academia, Dr. Ramkumar worked in the software industry with organizations like Logica CMG (now CGI) and Satyam Computer Services (now Tech Mahindra), where he led global teams on enterprise solutions and project management. This unique blend of industrial and academic experience has shaped his approach to education and research, bridging the gap between technological innovation and practical implementation.

Dr. Ramkumar’s research spans a broad spectrum of emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Biomedical Data Analytics, Cloud Computing Security and Privacy, Internet of Things and Wireless Sensor Networks, Blockchain, and Computational Intelligence. His work emphasizes secure data management and AI-driven healthcare applications. He has supervised and mentored numerous Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral researchers in India and abroad, including 15 Post-Doctoral fellows at the Singapore Institute of Technology.

A recognized innovator, Dr. Ramkumar holds more than a dozen published and granted patents in artificial intelligence, IoT, and biomedical engineering. His patented developments include an AI-based skin cancer inspection device, a smart walking stick for the visually impaired, a deep learning-enabled COVID-19 diagnostic kit, and IoT systems for structural damage detection and health monitoring. These innovations reflect his commitment to technological advancement that benefits human well-being.
